Clean Beauty Gift Guide: MAKEUP
Have you ever just wished that someone would compile a list of clean beauty cosmetics for you to shop without having to do all the research yourself?
Me too! So, here you are beauties! Today marks DAY ONE of my Clean Beauty Gift Guide for 2017. Each and every product listed has been tried and tested by me through my practicing on my own face or through working on clients. All opinions expressed in this post are solely my own; however, this post does contain affiliate links which help to support my family and this blog! Shop away makeup junkies! ;)
Are you looking for that perfect concealer to cover redness, discoloration, birth marks, rosacea, etc? I've got just the thing for you. Hynt Beauty's Duet Perfecting Concealer is a powerful, clean concealer that covers even the heaviest of skin concerns. I have used this concealer for dark circles, vascular birthmarks, and severe acne. It is an incredibly rich, creamy formula that takes the smallest amount of product to conceal and correct. If you skip foundation all together, I would highly recommend using this concealer to even out your complexion. If you use too much, you will have creasing, so be sure to use as little as possible and set with a translucent powder for longevity!
Some days it's easiest to throw on a tinted foundation and go about your business! Beautycounter's Dew Skin is a clean alternative to almost of all the BB and CC creams out on the market right now. Additionally, it is formulated with SPF to protect your skin against harmful UV rays, which is the number one cause of aging. As the coverage is incredibly sheer, I recommend pairing it with your favorite concealer. By nature, Dew Skin or tinted moisturizers have a heavy luminous quality and/or 'dewiness' to them, so for ladies who don't love to be quite so shiny, opt to set your base with a translucent or mineral powder of your choice. It brings me so much joy when cosmetic companies step out of the norm of standard products, applications, and formulations. RMS is one of those companies. They are clean, but pushing the market towards attainable beauty for both makeup artists and the everyday woman (i.e. less is more). For myself, I tried their "Un"Cover Up--a lightweight, incredibly moisturizing foundation. This year I've been trending away from a heavier coverage, but highly recommend this foundation for special events, selfies, photo shoots, or a night out with the girls. Otherwise, I tend to use it as a spot concealer. As with the Dew Skin above, "Un"Cover Up has a moisturizing quality to it needing powder to mattify and set the skin post application especially if you have combination or oily skin. To give you an idea on color matching, I am a fair olive complexion and my perfect match is #11.
You ever heard the saying, "If it's not broken, don't fix it?" That's how I feel about the blushes I use in my makeup kit! The Jane Iredale Purepressed Powder Blushes are so luxurious, finely milled, and pigmented that I've ended up using them for years. I honestly am just so happy with them; I never felt the need to make a change! They blend seamlessly into a client's makeup, so would definitely be a great blush for even makeup novices. My favorite shades are Awake (Dusky Rose), Copper Wind (Peach Apricot), and Sheer Honey (Neutral Beige), and let me tell you, I use them religiously. The only downside to these blushes I would say is the lack of color payoff for deeper complexions. The color tends to get washed out or look ashen on the skin. Otherwise, you will not regret keeping one of these babies in your makeup bag.
Bronzer frustrates me. Can I tell you why? Somewhere along the way all of the bronzers out there became way too shimmery, too orange, too ruddy, too difficult to blend, and/or a combination of ALL of the above. Until Beautycounter launched their Color Contour Matte Bronzers, I was blowing through various kinds of bronzers - I would simply toss them away or return them after just a couple of uses. The key is simplicity. Matte Bronzer #1 has a neutral, cool undertone ideal for fairer complexions while Matte Bronzer #2 is a deeper, warmer undertone for medium to dark complexions. When applying on yourself or a client, the bronzer is a natural, effortless glow instead of the over-illuminated, orangey-red look we see everywhere. Do yourself a huge favor (and a favor for your product junkie gal pals!) and order this bronzer today!
Highlighting has become much more prominent in recent years albeit almost too overdone, but when highlight is applied properly it is incredibly ethereal. Prior to switching over to clean beauty, I use to use Benefit's High Beam. Now, there are many safer cream highlighters on the market, but my favorite clean alternative is 100 Percent Pure's Luminous Creme in Northern Light featuring a cool iridescent pink tone. It is best to work with it quickly as it tends to dry faster than most cream highlighters, so I recommend applying with your fingertips for the best workability. If you prefer, another great way to apply it is with Sigma Beauty's Duo Fiber Brush. To cater to all skin tones, this product is also available in Moonlight, a pearlescent, true white highlighter, as well as Starlight, a warm, golden cream.
If this looks familiar, you'd be right. I recently featured this clean eyebrow gel on my November favorites, but truth be told, I wanted to share it again, because I love it so much. An awesome dupe of Anastasia Beverly Hills Eyebrow Gel, Ecobrow brings a product that is jam packed with pigment and long lasting. Additionally, it comes in multiple shades for each and every hair color. While the pricepoint is higher for a small container, it's okay, because one pot will likely last you a whole year.
If you are the kind of girl that wants to simplify your makeup routine, a brow pencil is the way to go. Burt's Bees launched their cosmetics just a couple of months ago, but I had the privilege to test out these beauties back in May of this year. I love how these non-toxic brow pencils are incredibly creamy and easy to use. Use the mascara spoolie on the opposite end of the pencil to blend the product into your brows, and you'll have spiffed up eyebrows in less than just a couple of minutes. Plus, you can find these pencils pretty much anywhere and for a really great pricepoint!
As I've done my clean beauty research over the years, finding eyeshadows that stood up to the test of the most popular brands was difficult; that was until I learned about Jane Iredale from another friend of mine. I almost exclusively use their eyeshadows in my makeup kit. I have many of their singles, all of their triples, and a few of their eyeshadow palettes. The color combinations, pigment, and wear are well worth the price tag, plus the golden packaging makes you feel oh-so feminine and luxurious. The trios I use the most are Brown Sugar (for Brown eyes), Triple Cognac (for Green/Grey eyes), and Pink Quartz (for Blue eyes).
Liquid eyeliner is not for the faint of heart; however, if you're an eyeliner pro and you're looking for the most waterproof, darkest liquid liner there is, look no further. Made out of Black Tea, 100 Percent Pure's Black Tea Long Last Liquid Eyeliner is one of the only (and best!) clean alternatives for toxic eyeliner out there. Beware, you'll need to get it off with coconut oil - it's that good!
Don't be surprised that my top choice for kohl pencils are also from the healthy, fruit pigmented brand 100% Pure. Kohl pencils are a better choice for eyeliner when it comes to ladies who aren't as experienced with their eye makeup, for smudgy eyes, and use on the waterline. Their eyeliner comes in five colors: blackest, white, dark cacao, royal, and gleaming pewter (my favorite!). A fun way to switch up your makeup is to use a colored liner, so you don't have to mess with multiple products or learn new eye makeup techniques.
A non-toxic, smudge proof mascara that won't flake, move, or budge throughout the day while simultaneously being easy to remove at the end of a long day! For ladies who want to add a little drama and definition to their lashes, Beautycounter's Lengthening Mascara is a great pick. As a bonus, Beautycounter offers a sixty day money back guarantee, so if you don't love it, you can always return it. If you shop via Beautycounter, please be sure to use my direct link here.
You may have seen Rituel De Fille's Lipstick featured on my October favorites, but that doesn't mean they wouldn't make an appearance for this holiday guide! Thirteen luxurious, moisturizing lipsticks give you enduring color while keeping your lips soft and supple. While they do have a few neutral shades, you'll find that Rituel De Fille loves to push their boundaries when it comes to color formulations. Many of the shades are ideal for Fall and Winter color palettes/
100% Pure's Semi-Matte Lipsticks are rich, decadent lip rouges that are formulated vegan, cruelty-free, and in nine well-rounded shades. Created with a combination of shea butter, cocoa butter, and Vitamin E, each tube gives you impactful color, moisturizing properties, and a long lasting wear. A selection of my favorites shades include: Cactus Bloom (a bold red-orange), Marrakesh (a vibrant, matte Fuschia), and Pink Canyon (a dusty, opaque Pink) .
If I've done your makeup this year, likely you've heard me raving about the Burt's Bees lipsticks. While they aren't as long lasting as the Rituel De Fille or 100% Pure lipsticks, they are a wonderful option for clean beauty mavens on a budget or for someone who wants to foray into wearing lipstick. At just $9 a tube, you can pick up several choices as stocking stuffers for your daughters, friends, and loved ones (or yourself!). Interested in what shades work well on everyone? Check out Suede Splash (a warm nude), Doused Rose (a deep. dusky pink), and Crimson Coast (a cool, opaque Crimson). As an FYI, don't leave them in a hot car or they will melt!
A lot of women don't like a glossy lip, but it does have an occasion. To me, lip gloss serves to add a little bit of color and glam without all the hassle of wearing a bright, bold lipstick; plus, it's ultra moisturizing to the lips. With Jane Iredale's PureGloss lip gloss, you can opt for a sheer gloss, sparkly shade, or a bit of high shine color -whatever you're feeling. In addition, they can be worn alone or paired on top of your favorite lipstick or lip pencil. Non-sticky, long lasting, and a fruity scent, this lip gloss will become one of your must haves. I recommend Iced Mocha (shimmering bronze Pink), Nectar (shimmering Honey Rose), and Soft Peach (frosty pink beige).
If there ever were a product I'm addicted to, it's Beautycounter's Lip Conditioner in Calendula. Not only does it soften and nourish the lips, but it feels luxurious, tastes, and smells great. My clients LOVE it. Unlike other balms or chapsticks, it doesn't have the adverse affect of drying your lips out more. Formulated with essential oils like chamomile, jojoba, and calendula as well as shea butter, it fights inflammation while healing chapped lips. You better stock up for the wintertime! For those who prefer a different flavor, the lip conditioner is also available in a delightful peppermint.
