Jo's Favorites October 2017
My coveted 'Favorites List' is back for another month! As always, I hope some of these things motivate, inspire, or encourage you in some small way. Enjoy!
1. You all know, I LOVE my standard red lip. After all, it is one of the launching points of my brand, but with cooler weather and Autumn on our heels, I felt the need for something a bit moodier. I came across Rituel De Fille's Forbidden Lipstick's (the whole brand is absolutely spellbinding!) and was instantaneously in love. I selected the shade Night Wanderer, which can be described on their website as 'wildflower fields at midnight, softly illuminated by a haloed moon.' Okay then, I'm sold. The color pigmentation is right on with a silky, rich feel that's long-lasting. Oh, and don't worry, they are a completely transparent, clean beauty company. They process all of their products in house as to maintain careful quality control and they never test on animals. You love them just as much as I do now, huh? Honestly, I cannot wait to try some of their other products, too as well as one of their many other shades of awesome lipstick.
PS. The bolder, deeper shades do need to be paired with a lip liner to maintain the consistent color, but I continue to be satisfied with this lipstick over and over again.
2. I can, without a doubt, describe Big Magic as a permission slip for living a creative life. Elizabeth Gilbert has gifted us creatives with this book and the freedom of knowing that while the process of making art isn't always easy, that's perfectly okay. There will be scary, easy, hard, frustrating, inspiring, doubtful, fearful, tormenting, happy, and joyous times, but it's all a part of the process. This book will take a burden off of your shoulders you didn't even realize was there. At times, Big Magic made me laugh out loud, cry, smile, and hope, but in the end, I realized, she's just giving you what has been inside of yourself all this time; the permission to let go, make art, and be you. PS If you only read the chapter on Fear, you would get more out of this book then most books I've read recently!
3. If you've never heard of Jenna Kutcher, wedding photographer, small business owner, podcaster, and social media maven, then likely you've been living under a rock! Jenna is a no-frills, authentic #girlboss, who has spend the last six years building the Kutcher empire. Her podcast, Goaldigger, is a refreshing small business podcast that covers topics like email marketing, social media management, business growth, and so much more it will make your head spin (in a really good way!). She describes her podcast as a 'live workshop-style business podcast for creative girl-bosses.' Some episodes she interviews other super successful girl bosses while others are more like a live lesson teaching you something in part of business. I really do hope you'll check it out, because this podcast is very insightful, helpful, and current to help you build your small business. You can learn more about Jenna and the services she offers here.
4. We just came back from vacation and during that time, we ate a lot of rich food. My stomach hasn't full recovered, so I thought it would be best to detox a bit. Enter Cookie + Kate's Redeeming Green Soup. This soup is very crunchy, and I don't mean in texture. It's very earthy, green, and clean eating, but it makes for a healthy, easy dinner to get your system back on track after a splurge week. We normally eat it solo, but it would also be great with a grilled cheese sandwich, some homemade garlic bread, or over rice. Did I mention, it's really easy to make? Hope you love it as much as I did.
